Southland schools impressive at road cycling champs

Southland schools have excelled at the South Island secondary schools road championships in Timaru.

Four Southland schools - James Hargest College, Southland Girls’ High School, Southland Boys’ High School and Verdon College - finished in the top eight in the Hayden Godfrey Challenge Cup team points competition.

James Hargest won the Challenge Cup on countback from Christchurch Boys’ High School and it’s believed to be the first time a Southland school has taken out that trophy.

The national schools road championships will be held in Christchurch from September 29 to October 1.
