Chance to get a taste of motorsport from behind the wheel

There has never been a better time to tackle a Motorkhana event with the Southland Sports Car Club.

Motorkhana is entry level motorsport at its best involving tight courses around cones that particularly suits small, nimble cars. Competitors tackle three different challenges and get three runs at each of them. The Motorkhana’s form part of the club’s Evolution Motorsport Clubsport Championship. Anyone 12 years of age and over can participate and you do not need a driver’s licence. You can use any car of WOF standard or alternatively use the Evolution Motorsport Toyota Levin that is available for use.

At last month’s opening round of the championship there were fourteen competitors making their debut in the sport. Several drivers shared cars including four who drove the Evolution Motorsport Toyota. The number of new competitors means that anyone getting involved will be starting out alongside several other competitors with the same experience level so really there has never been a better time to give it a go.

Round 2 takes place at Teretonga Park this Sunday, 29 September from 8.30am and the club welcomes newcomers. The Evolution Motorsport Toyota will be available again but it is imperative that you let our Clubsport Co-ordinator Malcolm Mitchell (021 666 956 or malcolm.mitchell67@gmail.com) know that you would like to use the car in advance.

Entry fee for a motorkhana is $25 and if you wish to use the Evolution Motorsport Toyota that is just an extra $20 per time. After two events participants need to join the club but membership is very reasonable, even more so for 12-to-18 year olds.

Don’t hesitate to contact the club for any information on motorkhana’s via the Southland Sports Car Club Clubsport Co-ordinator Malcolm Mitchell at 021 666 956 or malcolm.mitchell67@gmail.com
